Zavod za turizem in šport Kamnik se je v letu 2018 kot nosilec razvoja in promocije turizma na vodilni destinaciji Kamnik uspešno prijavil na »Javni razpis za sofinanciranje razvoja in promocije turistične ponudbe vodilnih turističnih destinacij v Sloveniji«. Operacijo delno financira Evropska unija, in sicer iz Evropskega sklada za regionalni razvoj, in se izvaja v okviru Operativnega programa za izvajanje kohezijske politike v programskem obdobju 2014 –2020. Naziv prijavljene operacije je Kamnik: Aktivna, zelena in vitalna alpska destinacija, zato se je ZTŠK osredotočil predvsem na aktivne in zelene digitalne vsebine. V okviru projekta je nosilec izboljševal nastop in doseg na različnih digitalnih kanalih, pridobil nove in atraktivne video vsebine, izboljšal kakovost turističnih proizvodov in se usmeril v trajnostni razvoj.
Glavni cilj operacije je bil povečati prepoznavnost destinacije Kamnik, s čimer bi le-ta postala alpska destinacija poznana širšemu krogu potencialnih turistov.
